Your adventure begins with hotel or airport pickup in Iquitos and transfer to the Bellavista Nanay port. Here, you’ll step aboard a speedboat and begin navigating the Nanay River until reaching its spectacular confluence with the Amazon River. This natural meeting of waters — the dark blackwater Nanay mixing with the milky-brown Amazon — creates a powerful and unforgettable scene, often accompanied by the sight of pink and gray river dolphins.
Your first stop is Fundo Don Pedrito, a riverside conservation project where you’ll encounter giant paiche fish, caimans, turtles, and the iconic Victoria Regia water lilies. Continuing along the river, you’ll visit the Yagua Indigenous community, where you’ll be introduced to traditional dances, songs, and handcrafted souvenirs.
Arriving at the Amazon Eco Lodge, you’ll be welcomed and assigned to your cabin. After a hearty Amazonian lunch, set off on a guided jungle walk to explore the surrounding rainforest and the nearby community of Timicurillo. Along the way, you’ll learn about the daily activities of local families and the fascinating uses of medicinal plants.
Return to the lodge for dinner. After nightfall, you may join an optional nocturnal excursion — either a guided jungle walk to experience the Amazon’s nighttime sounds or a canoe trip (during high-water season) to admire the magical riverscape under the stars.
Overnight at Amazon Eco Lodge.
Rise early (optional) for a breathtaking Amazon sunrise and the chance to observe dozens of bird species awakening with the forest. After breakfast, board your boat to visit Fundo Neyser, where several monkey species roam freely and welcome guests with playful curiosity.
Continue to the nearby village of San Juan de Huashalado, home to El Encanto de Rony, a small wildlife rescue center. Here, you’ll meet rescued animals such as sloths, anacondas, toucans, and parrots, while learning about local conservation efforts.
Next, enjoy a tasting of Amazonian medicinal and aphrodisiac liquors, such as 7 raíces, rompe calzón, and sangre de grado — traditional remedies that have been part of the Amazon’s culture for generations.
Return to the lodge for a farewell lunch, then board your boat for the journey back to Iquitos. Arrive in the city by late afternoon, with transfer to your hotel or the airport.
End of services.
Yes. We use modern motorboats equipped with life jackets for all passengers. The trips are safe and comfortable, with opportunities to relax and enjoy the spectacular river scenery. During excursions into smaller rivers or blackwater creeks, we use smaller wooden boats for a more intimate Amazon experience.
Although wildlife sightings can never be 100% guaranteed, the confluence of the Nanay and Amazon Rivers is one of the best places to spot both pink and gray river dolphins. Many travelers consider this moment — when the blackwater meets the milky-brown Amazon — one of the highlights of the journey.
We recommend lightweight clothing, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, and comfortable walking shoes. A rain poncho or light jacket is also useful, as showers are common in the Amazon. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars for wildlife viewing!
